YEREVAN. – Monday, September 17, 2012 is the day of Remembrance of the Dead and a no-work day in Armenia. 

The dead are remembered on the next day after the five holy days of the Armenian Apostolic Church. And, with the Armenian Government’s decision, the remembrance days of the dead are declared no-work days in the country. 

On those days all Armenian Apostolic Churches celebrate Divine Liturgies and offer requiem masses in memory of the dearly departed, and, subsequently, people visit the graves of their loved ones.    

On Sunday, the Armenian Apostolic Church celebrated the Exaltation of the Cross.

The Armenian Apostolic Church’s five main holy days are the Holy Christmas and Baptism of Christ, Holy Easter, Transfiguration of Jesus, the Assumption Holiday, and the Exaltation of the Cross.

To note, this work week will be a short one for Armenia’s residents, as the country will also celebrate its Independence Day anniversary on Friday.
