YEREVAN. – Armenian PM Tigran Sargsyan received Secretary General Dr. Hamadoun Touré of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).      

Sargsyan noted that Dr. Touré’s visit to Armenia is a good opportunity to discuss matters of bilateral interest. 

In his turn, ITU Secretary General recorded with delight that Armenia has registered positive changes in the telecommunication sector, the Government press service informs. 

“Certainly, the International Telecommunication Union’s assistance in securing this progress is likewise important for us,” Tigran Sargsyan stated.  

Separately, the ITU Secretary General stressed that, in line with the 2011 indicators, Armenia was in first place in the South Caucasus in terms of growth rate in the Information Technology (IT) sector.

Subsequently, the interlocutors discussed other matters relating to the telecommunication sector, including the activities toward installing a broadband communication system in Armenia.
