YEREVAN. – Armenian National Assembly’s (NA) European Integration Standing Committee Chairwoman Naira Zohrabyan on Friday met with Belarusian Ambassador Stepan Sukharenko and First Deputy Chief of Mission, Valeri Gorelko.    

Reflecting on the recent parliamentary elections in Belarus, Zohrabyan expressed regret that the OSCE again gave a negative assessment to this voting. In her words, it is very important for Belarus be included in the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly of the Eastern Partnership. 

“Work must be carried out so that ties between Belarus and the European institutions and European community are not discontinued,” the Standing Committee Chairwoman said, NA press service informs.      

The parties also discussed the double standards which the European structures are applying in recent times. Naira Zohrabyan deemed impermissible that the very same European community turns a blind eye to the anti-democratic processes in Azerbaijan and the growing number of political prisoners in that country, and applies double standards for the Eastern Partnership countries.        

The interlocutors agreed to continue working so that Belarus would be engaged in all-European processes as actively as possible. 

Ambassador Sukharenko underscored European integration and noted that they wish to become an equal partner.
