YEREVAN. – Chairman Ara Abrahamyan of the Union of Armenians of Russia was unanimously reelected World Armenian Congress Chairman during the organization’s second convention which kicked off Monday in Armenia’s capital, Yerevan.  

Addressing the attendees, Abrahamyan pledged to do everything “so that the relations between Armenia and the [Armenian] Diaspora are on a high level, so that any Armenian may visit the Motherland at least once a year, and so that a Diaspora-Armenian entrepreneur may have at least one representative in Armenia.” 

Russian President Vladimir Putin’s message was read during the convention, which brought together 147 delegates from seventeen countries.

Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan and Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II likewise were on hand at the convention’s official opening.
