The dual behavior of Turkey, bringing different preconditions for a given stage, the interpretation of a situation on their own and quite unreasonable way, has led to the fact that the process is in a stalemate, state the President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan, when speaking on the state of the Armenian-Turkish relations in an interview with Andino magazine.

“We have initiated the process with Turkey with a very sincere purpose – to achieve a new level of good neighboring relations, security and cooperation in the region. Of course, we were not so naive as to think that it would be easy. Today we can evaluate the result of the process: the dual behavior of Turkey, bringing different preconditions for a given stage, the interpretation of a situation on their own and quite unreasonable way, has led to the fact that the process is in a stalemate. Today, we can say that such a development for us was not unexpected, and the international community finally discovered the real face of Turkey, and I am sure that all concerns that we had and have in connection with Turkey in the present are already recognized by international partners. The whole process with Turkey enabled us to improve the dialogue with our fellows in the Diaspora and our own society to a new and promising level. We all witnessed the identification of a new political culture. By the way, our society, and the world came to know even the most difficult problems for us, which were presented to the public, as well as to the international partners.

Turkey expressed superstitiously approached to the normalization of Armenian-Turkish relations, which were initiated by us, insisting that the protocols were meeting only the interests of Turkey.

If we look to the future, I believe that it is time to specify, along with our mediators, the “practical deadlines” in Armenia – Turkey issue, and after securing a common understanding of these terms, if, during the given time Turkey does not take appropriate steps, move to certain action. We have no desire to support the existence of protocols for its own sake. It should be clear to all. We have repeatedly said, and I stress once again that there is no step with Turkey that could put our activities aimed at international recognition and condemnation of the Armenian Genocide under a question,” Sargsyan said.
