U.S. and its allies are developing a “significant regime of sanctions” against Iran. They will be international community’s unified response to Iran’s decision on nuclear program, Barack Obama stated on Tuesday.
Speaking in Washington, Obama assured that Iran is still pursuing a nuclear program that would lead to nuclear weapons.
He expressed content with Russia's quick disapproval of Iran's decision adding it was unclear how China would respond to the latest moves.
“How China operates at the Security Council as we pursue sanctions is something we're going to have to see,” said Obama, BBC reports.
The new push for sanctions on Iran is “in full swing” and should be completed in the next few weeks, Obama emphasized.
As NEWS.am reported previously, February 9 Iran started enriching uranium to 20%. Earlier, Feb. 7, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad attended the opening ceremony of laser technology plant and ordered Vice President and Head of Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Ali Akbar Salehi to begin enriching uranium to 20% with the centrifuges.
