YEREVAN. – The legislative bodies of the countries have an important role in the recognition of the Armenian Genocide, and it is time that the existing facts are brought to the legal dimension. Constitutional Court adviser, law specialist Gevorg Danielyan stated this during a press conference on Monday.  

In his words, in international law, no document can have the value of a legal act. 

“We could not make the legal acts become a subject of discussion. These types of trials are examined with two options: By the national court, and by the international judicial bodies,” Danielyan said.

As per the law specialist, it is not a coincidence that Turkey seeks that the countries, which already have recognized the Armenian Genocide, reconsider their respective decision. 

Danielyan stressed that the extermination of the Armenians was carried out on political and ethnic grounds, alike. As for the deportations of the Armenians, he stressed that even though they say half a million were deported, even Talat Pasha—who is one of the architects behind the Armenian Genocide—had written in his memoirs that this number was twice as much.      

The law specialist also informed that the Turkish authorities find that these trials and judicial acts were carried out under pressure from the international community 

Gevorg Danielyan also forewarned that Turkey is doing everything so that these judicial acts do not become a subject of discussion.
