YEREVAN. – This general uprising is a manifestation of the self-determination of the citizenry, and every one that realizes the importance of the principle of self-determination can only be happy with this phenomenon.
Opposition National Self-Determination Union (NSU) Chairman, ex-presidential candidate Paruyr Hayrikyan noted the aforesaid, during a press conference on Wednesday, commenting on the ongoing protests against the recent hike in the public transport fare in capital city Yerevan.
In his words, the phenomenon, against which the people are protesting, is a result of another phenomenon: the recent increase in the prices of natural gas and the Armenian authorities’ inaptitude to properly address this matter.
Hayrikyan noted that the authorities should have had a clear action plan before the rise in the gas prices.
“[But] our citizens have sensed the importance of self-determination, and we need to have an opportunity for self-determination,” the NSU leader added.
Speaking about what needs to be done, Paruyr Hayrikyan specifically stated as follows:
“A consolidation is in need around my model for a perfect democracy. Thank God, the silence has been broken.”
