YEREVAN. – The “Against Mandatory Pension Payments” initiative members marched in protest from across the National Assembly (NA) building to the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) Central Office building.
In front of the office, they demanded from the ruling party not to boycott the NA special session devoted to the discussion of the mandatory pension payment procedure.
A protester said they demand that the word “mandatory” be removed from the law on cumulative pension.
At around 2pm, demonstration participant engineer Tigran Petrosyan, who had entered the RAP office to submit their 25-point demand, came out and informed that the RPA representatives had promised to issue an explanation why the RPA MPs did not participate in the NA special session.
As a result of this announcement, the aforesaid initiative members ended their protest.
To note, the “Against Mandatory Pension Payments” initiative, on Friday commenced a march from across the parliament building. The demonstrators started the march upon the respective call made by opposition MPs, and finding out that the ruling Republican Party of Armenia National Assembly Faction had boycotted the NA special session devoted to the discussion of the mandatory pension payment procedure.
