YEREVAN. – The employees of Nairit chemical [rubber] plant of Armenia’s capital city Yerevan again gathered in front of the Government Building on Thursday and demanded their unpaid salaries.  

After his meeting with Energy and Natural Resources Minister Armen Movsisyan, the demonstrators’ representative, Nairit Trade Union Committee Head Hrach Tadevosyan informed his fellow workers that the minister promised that the salaries will be paid no later than November 25.   

The plant workers, however, hope that the Nairit issue will be resolved as a result of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s forthcoming visit to Armenia.

“The final decision-maker is the Russian delegation that will come, and our matter will be resolved in those days,” they stated.  

The Nairit workers added that they do not believe in the minister’s promise, and some even suggested taking drastic measures.   

But, in the end, the protesting plant employees left from across the Government building hoping that Putin’s visit, which is slated for December 2, will solve their problems once and for all. 

To note, the Russian Rosneft Company is interested in purchasing the Nairit plant.
