YEREVAN. – A protest march got underway Monday afternoon from Liberty Square in capital city Yerevan.

At present, the protesters are at the end of Northern Avenue, where the police have formed a wall, the Armenian News-NEWS.am reporter informs.

Yerevan Deputy Police Chief Valeri Osipyan announced that the gathering is unlawful and the march is not sanctioned.

Activists as well as representatives from political forces are taking part in the march.

The activists are marching with Armenia’s tricolor flag in their hands, they are making chants against President Serzh Sargsyan, they have closed their mouths with a black fabric, and they are holding banners against Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to be conducted to Armenia on Monday.

Incidentally, the Armenian News-NEWS.am reporter noticed Yerevan Police Chief Ashot Karapetyan following the protest march.

To our reporter’s query as to why he is on location, Karapetyan responded: “Unlawfulness is taking place here; that’s why I’m here.”
