YEREVAN. – According to preliminary assessments, in 2013 the tomato harvest in Armenia reduced by 5,000 tons, Deputy Agriculture Minister Gagik Petrosyan said explaining it by tomato moth.

The Agriculture Ministry recommends farmers to make replanting.

“Here much depends on our farms. They should be ready in time to follow the advice of experts in such difficult cases,” Petrosyan said.

According to him, tomato moth is spreading fast, causing many problems. The Ministry continues cooperation with organizations engaged in import and sale of pesticides that are effective and safe for the harvest, he assured.

However, it must be noted that decline in 5,000 tons was not very significant, as the annual harvest of tomatoes in Armenia is 270-280 thousand tons.
