YEREVAN. – There were large queues in the banks of Armenian capital city Yerevan on Wednesday, Haykakan Zhamanak daily reports.

“The thing is that a large amount of remittances were made to our country in the pre-holidays; so much so that the last work days of the month of December [2013] were not enough to receive them.

“Yesterday [i.e., Wednesday], on the first work day of this year, everyone rushed to receive, as soon as possible, the remittances their relatives had sent them.       

“Incidentally, the picture was the same on December 30 [, 2013]. On that day hundreds of people wanted not to leave getting money for the ‘next year.’ The queue was so large that some remittance recipients returned home empty-handed. There were people whose turn had come at three o’clock at night,” Haykakan Zhamanak writes.
