YEREVAN. – The participants in Friday’s protest march, in support of Armenian activist Shant Harutyunyan and other political prisoners, walked from capital city Yerevan’s Liberty Square to the Government Building.   

Near the building the demonstrators expressed their dissatisfaction with the existence of political prisoners in Armenia.  

At that moment Justice Minister Hrayr Tovmasyan came out of the Government Building.

Tovmasyan sat in his car, but the vehicle stopped shortly after moving ahead, the Armenian News-NEWS.am reporter informs. The minister came out of the car and, subsequently, the police immediately formed a human wall between the protesters and Tovmasyan.        

In response to the reporters’ query, however, Tovmasyan stated that, as a minister, he cannot say anything on his position concerning the course of the investigation into Harutyunyan’s case.  

Next, the demonstrators headed to the General Prosecutor’s Office building.  

The participants in the march demand that the Prosecutor General permit the relatives of Shant Harutyunyan and the other political prisoners to meet with the prisoners.  

Some demonstrators are also holding banners against the Russian-led Customs Union.   

Opposition National Self-Determination Union Chairman, ex-presidential candidate Paruyr Hayrikyan has joined the participants in the march. 

As Armenian News-NEWS.am reported earlier, opposition Heritage Party Chairman, ex-presidential candidate and former FM, Raffi Hovannisian, likewise is among the demonstrators.
