YEREVAN. – The Armenian National Assembly (NA) Standing Committee on Science, Education, Culture, Youth and Sport on Wednesday convened its first meeting for 2014. 

At the event, Deputy Minister of Health Sergey Khachatryan introduced the package of bills on making amendments to the Law on Advertisement and concerning administrative violations.  

Khachatryan noted that Armenia needs to pass the aforesaid bills in consideration of the World Health Organization Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (WHOFCTC) requirements, pursuant to which each party to the Convention has to ban the advertisement, sponsorship, and sales promotion of tobacco.       

The relevant legislative, executive, administrative and other measures will be taken within five years of the Convention’s entry into force. 

The package of bills was approved for inclusion in the agendas of the NA sitting and the four-day sessions.
