YEREVAN. – The new pension reforms require courage, but they are inevitable.

Ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) MP Artak Davtyan stated the aforesaid at a press conference on Thursday.

“The mandatory component is only a small part of the [pension] reforms, whereas the overall reforms require courage, which we possess,” he said.

Davtyan, however, could not predict what the Constitutional Court will decide on March 28 concerning the law on pension reforms.

“If this law is deemed unconstitutional, we will respect [it] because there is no other instance in Armenia where we can challenge the decision,” the RPA MP noted.

In Davtyan’s words, the RPA focuses on the new law.

“If we consider that the [respective] minister is a RPA member, this law is in our daily discussions,” he said.

The ruling party deputy also noted that the important laws in Armenia are now passed bearing in mind the view of the country’s civil society.

“The citizens’ activism is a proof of the fact that it is impossible to overlook their views when passing important laws in our country,” Artak Davtyan stated.
