ISTANBUL. – A group comprising Azerbaijanis and Turkish nationalists assembled at Sisli district of Istanbul and staged an anti-Armenian demonstration.

Under the name of commemorating the “Khojaly events,” the Azerbaijanis and the Turkish nationalists gathered [across the office of Agos Armenian weekly of Istanbul] on Sunday, reports Milliyet daily of Turkey. 

The nearly-twenty-member group wanted to march toward Taksim Square, but the police prohibited this intention. 
In the meantime, the group members held anti-Armenian and racist banners that read, “Long live the likes of Ogun Samast, down with the likes of Hrant Dink.”   

The Turkish authorities’ permitting of such a racist action, however, caused a great uproar on social websites.
Hrant Dink was the founder and chief editor of Agos Armenian weekly of Istanbul, and he was killed on January 19, 2007 in front of the weekly’s office, by Ogun Samast. The ongoing trials into Dink’s murder, however, have not yet exposed the architects of this assassination.
