The second round in the presidential elections in Slovakia kicked off on Saturday.

Two candidates are competing in the run-off. They are serving PM and ruling Smer party leader Robert Fico, and civic candidate and philanthropist Andrej Kiska.   

Fico and Kiska had won the first round of the elections on March 15 by garnering 28 and 24 percent of the votes, reported ITAR-TASS news agency of Russia.

The polling stations opened at 7am, and they will close at 10pm, local time. About 4.3 million Slovak citizens are eligible to vote. Preliminary results will be announced at night.

Fourteen presidential candidates had run for office in the first round. 

The President of Slovakia is elected for a five-year term, and he may hold this office for two consecutive terms.
