YEREVAN. – The pain of people must not be buried, but cured. Armenian Genocide is not a common pain of Armenian and Turkish people, but inhuman tragedy and shame of Turkish empire. This was stated by spokesperson for Armenia's ruling party Eduard Sharmazanov in response to Turkish FM's remarks.
Ahmet Davutoglu's article entitled “Turks and Armenians – we must follow Erdoğan's lead and bury our common pain” was published in the British The Guardian. In his article, Turkish FM said the dispute over why and how the Armenian tragedy happened continues to distress Turks and Armenians.
“Communal and national memories of a pain, suffering, deprivation and monumental loss of life continue to keep the Armenian and Turkish peoples apart. Competing and seemingly irreconcilable narratives on the 1915 events prevent the healing of this trauma. What we share is a "common pain" inherited from our grandparents,” he wrote.
Sharmazanov, spokesperson for Republican Party of Armenia and Deputy Speaker of the Armenian National Assembly, believes Turkey must eliminate consequences in order to cure the pain, and official Ankara should follow Germany's leader to admit that genocide was perpetrated against Armenians in the Ottoman Empire.
“Turkey should realize that it was the loss of a homeland for the Armenians, Turkey must stop the policy of ultimatums with neighbors. And most importantly, Turkey should stop casting doubt on the historical fact of the Armenian Genocide. International community has long recognized the Armenian Genocide, which is not subject to discussion,” the official said.
Sharmazanov reminded the Foreign Minister of Turkey about the decision of the Ottoman court, which sentenced to death the organizers of the Armenian Genocide.
