YEREVAN. – Armenian ruling circles' consumer policy regarding Lake Sevan should be ruled out, director of hydroecology and ichthyology Evelina Ghukasyan said during a press conference on Monday.

Earlier the Armenian government decided to increase the maximum intake from Sevan in 2014 to 25 million cubic meters, explaining it by the need for to meet irrigation demand for farmers.

The institute is dealing with the problems of Sevan but has never received any scientific evidence ahead of government's decision, the expert said.

“We do not know how such decision, sometimes absurd ones, are justified. Thus, the government will violate the law on Lake Sevan. The only way to save the lake, the only way to restore water resources is water level increase. Raising and lowering of the water level will have a negative impact on the formation of ecosystem of the lake,” she said.
