YEREVAN. –Armenian National Assembly (NA) Speaker Galust Sahakyan on Friday received a Georgian delegation, led by Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, which is in Armenia on an official visit.

Sahakyan noted that this visit once again proves the two countries’ willingness to expand cooperation, the NA press service informed.

In terms of the development of Armenian-Georgian relations, the Armenia NA leader underscored the role of the Armenian and the Georgian parliaments, and the cooperation within international organizations. As per Sahakyan, the two countries need to cooperate more actively and implement new joint projects.

Galust Sahakyan noted that next year will mark the centennial of the Armenian Genocide, and that genocide recognition and condemnation are important so as to prevent future crimes against humanity.

In the Armenian parliament speaker’s words, Armenia has an interest in the establishment of a lasting peace and stability in the South Caucasus, and in the creation of new conditions for regional security. Sahakyan stated that Armenia seeks a peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, and underscores the formation of a climate of trust in the region.

In turn, Georgia PM Irakli Garibashvili noted that the objective of his delegation’s current visit to Armenia is to further develop good-neighborly relations and contribute to the strengthening of economic and cultural ties with Armenia. He likewise underscored the steps to deepen Armenia-Georgia parliamentary cooperation.

The parties also discussed several other matters of mutual interest.
