YEREVAN. – Russia welcomes any meetings aimed at settlement and peaceful resolution of Karabakh conflict, Ambassador Ivan Volynkin told reporters.
Asked whether Russian side will be consistent in investigation of the death of Karen Petrosyan in Azerbaijan's captivity, the diplomat said it does not depend on the Russian side only.
“An investigation must be carried out in multilateral basis to involve all the parties. Everything will depend on the arrangements that the parties will reach. Investigation mechanisms should work well to reduce possible risks of incidents,” Ambassador added.
Earlier Russian Foreign Ministry said they deeply regret the deaths caused by unsettled Karabakh conflict.
Spokesperson Alexander Lukashevich said they consider it necessary to conduct thorough investigations into such incidents.
Karen Petrosyan, a resident of Chinari village, was taken captive on August 7, and on the next day Azerbaijani side reported about his death of “a heart failure”. Armenian investigation committee has launched a criminal case.
