Dr. Alexander Rondeli, the President of the Georgian Foundation for Strategic and International Studies, believes Russia’s role in security in the South Caucasus to be destructive. He expressed his opinion at a two-day seminar on challenges to democratic development and effective government in Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan, which opened on July 21, Kavkaz Online reports.

Among the participants in the seminar are representatives of the Atlantic Associations of Armenia, Georgia and Azerbaijan.

The seminar discussed issues of security in the South Caucasus, opportunities and challenges, problems of transparency in the defense and security sectors. 

Dr. Rondeli pointed out an improving security situation in the Caucasus, as all the three states are becoming full-fledged states.

Security is difficult to maintain with Russia’s playing a destructive role, he said.
