First Minister of Scotland Alex Salmond conceded defeat after the independence referendum voting results, according to which the majority of the Scots have voted in favor of maintaining the union with Great Britain, reported the Agence France-Presse.

Salmond stated that he accepted “the democratic verdict of the people” and called on everyone else to “do the same” adding that country did not want independence “at this stage,” The Independent wrote.

He also pledged to work constructively, Gazeta.ru reported.

It is apparent that 60 percent of the Scots already have cast their ballots.
