Russian-Armenian businessman Levon Hayrapetyan has been made to wear an electronic bracelet, RIA Novosti news agency of Russia reported citing Kristina Belousova, a representative of the Federal Penitentiary Service of the Russian Federation.
“Hayrapetyan has been made to wear an electronic bracelet whereby the penitentiary inspectorate workers will monitor the maintenance of the house arrest conditions [of Hayrapetyan]. In addition, the inspectorate workers will make house visits [to him],” Belousova noted.
A Moscow district court on Friday ruled in favor of releasing Hayrapetyan from prison and placing him under house arrest.
Levon Hayrapetyan, 65, was detained in a Moscow airport on July 15 and subsequently arrested. On July 24, the Russian Federation Investigation Committee brought two criminal charges against him: embezzlement or misuse, and money laundering. Even though Hayrapetyan has health problems, he was kept in prison. Hayrapetyan’s detention will terminate on December 15.
