YEREVAN. – The Islamic State (IS) is not a faction that receives Turkey’s assistance, Turkologist Gevorg Petrosyan said at a press conference on Monday.

“The Turkey-IS relations are quite complex, and it’s just impossible to make a clear assessment on them. These relations are quite contentious especially in recent years,” Petrosyan noted, in particular.

The turkologist added that the bill which the Turkish parliament has passed, and with respect to deploying Turkish troops to Syria and Iraq, will have a negative impact on the Armenian community in Syria, since Turkey does not want to have a strong Armenian community in the vicinity.
