YEREVAN. – Energy and Natural Resources Minister Yervand Zakharyan on Tuesday visited the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant (ANPP), and got familiarized with the ongoing annual planned repairs and refueling at the plant.

The repair works at the ANPP got underway on September 27, and they will last 46 days.

In the minister’s words, the plant’s prophylactic repairs are progressing according to schedule.

“After opening the reactor, [however,] it was found out that it will be necessary to carry out additional work. [So,] we have invited corresponding specialists from the Russian Federation and the Czech Republic,” Zakharyan said after the tour of the plant.

In the minister’s words, everything possible is done so that the additional work does not affect the schedule and that the ANPP is reconnected to the country’s power grid on November 11, as slated.

Yervand Zakharyan added that a research group from Russia is also invited, and it is examining the technical condition of the equipment.

Overall, about 700 specialists—300 of whom from abroad—are engaged in the annual planned maintenance of the ANPP.

The minister also assured that there are and there can be no problems connected with the present-day supply of electricity in Armenia, since the necessary amount of electricity is now supplied by the fifth unit of the Hrazdan Thermal Power Plant.
