The Armenian National Assembly (NA) delegation, led by NA Speaker Galust Sahakyan, continues its official visit to Georgia.

On Tuesday morning, Sahakyan laid a wreath at the square of the fallen heroes of Georgia’s territorial integrity.  

During the subsequent meeting with Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili, they discussed interstate cooperation in the cultural, political, and economic domains. In addition, Sahakyan expressed a concern over the regional arms race.      

“These huge amounts, which Azerbaijan and Turkey are spending on the acquisition of offensive weapons, can be directed to the establishment of stability and formation of a climate of trust,” he noted.   

Afterward, interstate cooperation was conferred on also with Georgian PM Irakli Garibashvili. The Armenian NA leader noted that clear directions are formed toward trade and economic cooperation between the two countries. He also underscored the smooth functioning of the Upper Lars checkpoint on the Russian-Georgian border. 

“I [also] would like to ask for your assistance in facilitating the issuance of a permanent residence permit to the Armenian citizens living in Georgia who, having left to work abroad, have received citizenship in other countries.

“[But] as a result of the legislative changes in Georgia, they are in a difficult situation, not being able to live permanently with their families,” Galust Sahakyan added, in particular.  

In turn, Garibashvili stated that the Armenia NA delegation’s official visit to Georgia is an evidence of the friendship and brotherhood between the two countries.

And reflecting on the Georgian legislative changes regarding visa procedures, he specifically said: “We [, Georgia,] have received a work plan in connection with signing of the [European Union] Association Agreement. The new visa [issuance] regulations are due to this. [But] this matter will be resolved.”       

Galust Sahakyan-led Armenian National Assembly delegation also paid a visit to the Embassy of Armenia in Georgia. Subsequently, it visited the Komitas Pantheon in Tbilisi and placed flowers to the tombs of the Armenian greats.
