Cemil Bayik, a leader of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), has stated that something like the Armenian Genocide is happening now against the Kurds in Syria.
Speaking to the Kurdish Ozgur Politika and Azadiya Welat newspapers, Bayik said that the Islamists’ attack on Kobani—a Syrian city on the Turkish border and which is the capital of the Kurdish autonomy—is genocide.
“During this attack the Kurds are massacred and deported. The Ottoman state did the same thing against the Armenians in 1915.
“The deportation of the Kurds in Kobani is carried out jointly by the Islamic State and the Turkish state.
“Something like the Armenian Genocide is happening now against the Kurds, but the world is [just] watching,” the PKK leader stated.
