Armenian National Assembly (NA) Vice-Speaker Eduard Sharmazanov, who is in Geneva, Switzerland, on a working visit, on Monday met with Hellenic Parliament member Georgios Konstantopoulos, who also heads the Greek delegation to the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

The meeting was held within the framework of the 131st Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly.

They noted that Armenian-Greek interparliamentary relations enjoy a high level, and underscored the further deepening of parliamentary cooperation.

Konstantopoulos, for his part, highlighted the need to support each other at parliamentary assemblies.

The interlocutors remarked that the centenary of the Armenian Genocide will be observed next year. In this context, and reflecting on Turkey’s ongoing denial of the genocide, the NA deputy chair recorded that Turkey thus proves that it is not ready to face its history.

Sharmazanov also extended his gratitude to the Hellenic Parliament for recently passing a bill on criminalizing Armenian Genocide denial.
