Accidental war is likely to resume in the Karabakh conflict zone as a result of a regular provocation by Azerbaijan and finally the regional situation might get out of control, said the director of the Armenian Center for National and International Studies (ACNIS) Richard Giragosian speaking at round-table discussions today.

“In the light of recent developments one should be more serious about small clashes on the contact line which can turn into war, rather than about Baku’s official statements on intentions to resume hostilities,” he noted.  The expert forecasts that the situation might exacerbate during summer and grow into serious confrontation. Thus, the Armenian side should always be ready for unexpected developments, waiting for the worst, he stressed.

Richard Giragosian underscored that resumption of hostilities does not meet Azerbaijan’s interests as well, as in this case it will definitely lose due to its army’s unreadiness. War also may negatively affect country’s economy and block the activities of oil and gas sector.
