The Armenian Assembly of America (AAA) thanks Secretary Clinton for her visit to Armenia, her comments on Turkey’s responsibility for the progress of normalization of relations with Armenia and especially for her tribute at the Armenian Genocide Memorial, AAA reported.

Hillary Clinton became the highest ranking U.S. official traveling to Armenia to honor the 1.5 million victims of the Armenian Genocide by paying her respects in a private visit at the Tsitsernakaberd memorial complex.

“It was not only consistent with her long-standing and public record, as well as America's historical record acknowledging the Armenian Genocide,  but also helps us in achieving universal recognition and justice,” said the Assembly’s Chairman of the Board of Trustees Hirair Hovnanian.

The statement by AAA also mentions that preceding Hillary Clinton’s visit, the Armenian Assembly met with key Members of Congress and Administration officials regarding the Secretary’s tour of the region to convey the importance of visiting the Armenian Genocide Memorial. Assembly Executive Director Bryan Ardouny stated that Clinton’s visit to the Genocide memorial provides new impetus to affirmation efforts, as the Assembly renews its call for passage of the Armenian Genocide resolution during this, the 95th anniversary year.
