YEREVAN. – The Prosecutor General’s Offices of Armenia and Russia have discussed the particulars of the case involving Monday’s murder in Gyumri city, the Prosecutor General’s Office of Armenia informed Armenian News-NEWS.am.

Accordingly, Valery Permyakov, the main suspect in this crime, is a Russian citizen, and is therefore under the jurisdiction of the Russian law enforcement. As a result, Permyakov will not be handed over to the Armenian law enforcement because pursuant to the Russian Constitution, a Russian citizen cannot be transferred to another country.

The Armenian and Russian law enforcement agencies are jointly conducting the respective investigation.

The Armenian side, however, will see to it that all the perpetrators of this crime are brought to justice required by law.

Six members of the Avetisyan family were shot dead and a six-month-old baby was wounded in their house in Gyumri on Monday. Valery Permyakov, a serviceman of the city’s Russian 102nd Military Base, is the main suspect in this crime. Permyakov was apprehended near the Armenian-Turkish border, in the vicinity of Armenia’s Bayandur village.
