EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Eshton stated the European Union is seeking close cooperation with the eastern neighbors, especially with rapidly developing Caucasian states.

In the course of the July 15 EU-Georgia association agreement talks, Eshton stressed that the EU will soon launch association agreement negotiations with Armenia and Azerbaijan as well.  

The EU official stressed that Georgia has achieved certain success in the European integration, adding there is still a lot of work to do.

In his turn, President Mikheil Saakashvili said that Georgia intends to build the first democratic state in the region, Trend reported.
