YEREVAN. – The nine-year-old boy, who was transferred to Surb Grigor Lusavorich (Saint Gregory the Illuminator) Medical Center in Armenia’s capital city of Yerevan at dawn on Monday, has undergone surgery.

Center Intensive Care Unit Head Gagik Manukyan told the aforesaid to Armenian News-NEWS.am.

He noted that the nerve surgeon had operated on the child’s skull, and the little boy is currently under supervision at the intensive care unit, he is in serious but stable condition, and possesses elements of consciousness.

In addition, the child’s right leg was burned. 

The child’s mother, who likewise was hospitalized, also has burns, and she was sent to the Burn Center.

Manukyan added that the mother had beaten the child and, subsequently, poured gasoline on the little boy and set him on fire.

As reported earlier, the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Emergency Situations received a report, on Monday at 5am, according to which a fire had broken out in an apartment Yerevan.

Two fire and rescue squads and a quick response team were dispatched to the scene, the Ministry Rescue Service informed.

The fire was put out at 5:27am, but the apartment, together with the furniture (28 square meters), was completely destroyed by the fire.

The firefighters evacuated 47-year-old A. and 9-year-old F. N. from the apartment, but were suffering from smoke inhalation, burns, and different-degree physical injuries.

The injured were hospitalized.
