Secretary of the RA National Security Council Artur Baghdasaryan held a meeting July 19 with Head of Directorate for Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia, European Commission, Gunnar Wiegand.

The press service of the RA Security Council informed NEWS.am that the sides discussed negotiations for an agreement on Armenia’s associate membership in the EU. Armenia seeks to expand overall cooperation with the EU, Baghdasaryan said. He stressed the importance of forming a committee on justice, freedom and security.

The sides shared the opinion that, along an agreement on associate membership, the sides need a comprehensive agreement on free trade, which would facilitate the Armenia-EU economic cooperation.

Mr. Gunnar Wiegand welcomed progress in visa issuance

The sides also pointed out the need for improving Armenia’s investment environment and training highly skilled personnel to implement the associate membership agreement.
