Maintenance of the Karabakh's status quo is in Armenia’s interests, as Madrid Principles assume real concessions by Yerevan and only promises by Azerbaijani side, the head of the Modus Vivendi center Ara Papyan told the journalists on Wednesday.

He noted that presently Azerbaijan repeatedly states at the highest level that it will permit self-determination of Karabakh only within its territorial integrity.

According to him, to date Armenia has not received proposals for a final solution leading to lasting peace. Yerevan should seek maintenance of the status quo, as Armenia’s concessions will make Azerbaijan unleash a new war due to weakening of the defensive positions of Armenia and NKR.

“Any transition period will urge Armenia and Azerbaijan to enter a race. Azerbaijan might allocate a certain amount for the settlement of Nagorno-Karabakh. Armenia is not capable of resisting it, as Azerbaijan’s demographic and material resources prevail over those of Armenia,” he added.
