NATO cannot be involved in settlement of conflicts, including the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. If Armenia and Azerbaijan apply to NATO for interference, it can consider the possibility of assistance using the request of Israel and Palestine as a precedent, Laure Borgomano, Representative to the Senior Civil Emergency Planning Committee (SCEPC), Delegation of France to NATO, stated at a roundtable discussion in Baku.
New forms of NATO’s cooperation with the countries of the Gulf and South Caucasus are incorporated in NATO’s new concept. Speaking of the ethnic conflicts in the South Caucasus, Ms. Borgomano said that Azerbaijan and Armenia have never applied to NATO, and the issue is not within NATO’s terms of reference.
