YEREVAN. – Armenia is a leader in genocide prevention.
International Criminal Court Prosecutor Luis Moreno Ocampo stated the aforementioned at the two-day global forum, which is titled “Against the Crime of Genocide” and devoted to the Armenian Genocide Centennial, and which got underway Wednesday in Armenia’s capital city of Yerevan.
In his words, the term “genocide” arose after the Jewish Holocaust.
“I’m grateful to Armenia for being a leader in terms of genocide prevention,” Ocampo said, and added: “This will not only enable to see what happened one hundred years ago, but what’s happening now.”
He noted, however, that, to this day, it is very difficult to prevent this crime.
“Hence such an event [i.e. the forum] is very relevant today,” Luis Moreno Ocampo said.
To note, about 600 participants from fifty countries are taking part in this forum.
