A claim lodged by Californian Armenians has evoked varied responses, Aris Nalci Editor of the Istanbul-based Agos newspaper, told NEWS.am. Calm responses prevail, he said.

Of course, some radicals accuse Armenians of all the sins, of laying claims to “Turkish lands” and seizing Turks’ property. Armenians with relevant documents are their disposal have recently more often lodged claims demanding property and have won.

As to how well the process is going on, Aris Nalcı pointed out procrastination. But the process is generally progressing. “We must struggle for our property with the power of our thought, not in any other way,” he said. According to him, any such issue must be settled in Turkey.

“The U.S. will not resolve any issue. At present, the Turkish Government gives adequate responses to demand for compensations and satisfies them if they are well-founded,” Nalci said. Armenian houses, architecture and traces of Armenian culture can be founded in almost any Turkish city, and no one denies the fact that “Armenians have been here.”

Nalci believes Californian Armenians can succeed. “It would be nice,” he said.
