The parliamentary majority of the Lower House of Belgium firmly intends to recognize the Armenia Genocide, Denis Ducarme,   leader of the Reformist Movement (MR) faction told French TV companies RTBF and RT in the House of Representatives of the Belgian parliament, the Belgian newspaper RLN reports. Ducarne will soon introduce the corresponding resolution bill.  

Another coalition faction, New Flemish Alliance (N-VA) has already introduced a resolution bill, but Ducarne called it a draft, which needs to be modified, since its text skips the topic of the Genocide recognition.

All the parties want to recognize the Genocide, but the treatment of several Turkish MPs stirs up disputes, the Belgian newspaper reports. This way Mahinur Özdemir,  [Turkish] MP from Brussels, was expelled for refusing to voice the recognition. 

In his interview given to the Belgian newspaper L'Echo this weekend, FM Didier Reynders said that MPs should try to raise the recognition above the ‘government-opposition’ division, RLN reports.

Belgian parliament adopted a resolution on the recognition of the Armenian Genocide back in 1998, at the level of the Upper Chamber. The Lower Chamber hasn’t adopted such documents yet.
