YEREVAN. – President of the Russian Railways company, Vladimir Yakunin, on Monday stated that the Iran-Armenia railway project has no prospect, reported Haykakan Zhamanak daily.

“[But] at a meeting with journalists in [Armenia’s capital city of] Yerevan exactly one year ago, the same Yakunin had said the Iran-Armenia railway construction is a ‘pretty topical’ matter.

“And back in 2008, [Armenian President] Serzh Sargsyan had stated that, ‘Construction of the Iran-Armenia railway will start in the coming years.’

“Yakunin’s [most recent] statement[, however,] proves that a matter of constructing such a railway is no longer on the agenda,” wrote Haykakan Zhamanak.
