Armenia is a very attractive country to tourists but it is still unrevealed mystery for Europe and other countries, honorary president of the International Forum of Travel and Tourism Advocates John Downs said in the course of informal discussions on tourism legislation held in Yerevan.
He noted that Armenia is a wonderful country and has untapped tourism potential, adding that it remains a mystery for the world, a secret that should be revealed. According to the expert, Armenia should be brought closer to Europe to achieve success in the Armenian tourism. The national tourism standards should be adjusted to the international ones, the reforms should be undertaken as well. John Downs also pointed out increase in level of tourism services in Armenia, development of national tour operators which will present the country abroad and create its image. The expert stated that cooperation between the government and local authorities should be developed as well.
Overall 230,000 tourists visited Armenia in H1 2010, exceeding the previous year’s indicator by 11.2%.
