Appointment of a man having three wives as an adviser to Turkish Premier Erdogan touched off arguments in Muslim, but at the same time secular Turkey, Le Figaro writes.

In June Turkish Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan appointed Ali Yuksel who confessed to having three wives, as an adviser. Yuksel also stated he intends to have the forth wife using all his rights under Islam.

In 2004, Justice and Development Party accused of intention to islamize the Turkish society, tried to criminalize treason. However, it had to reject the initiative that made a stir in Turkey and was negatively perceived by the European Union.

Polygamy has been banned in Turkey since 1926, but it is permitted in some parts of the country.

A campaign called “NoAliYuksel” has been launched on Twitter as well, Hurriyet Daily News reported.
