Expensive clothes of Turkish Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan, as well as nationality of Kemal Kilicdaroglu, leader of the Turkish Republican People’s Party were discussed on the Turkish Beyaz TV.
During the program, Ankara Mayor Melih Gokcek answered the journalists’ question on Republican People’s Party and, in particular, touched upon the rumors concerning Armenian roots of the party’s leader. Melih Gokcek noted that in case a person is a citizen of Turkey it is wrong to discuss his ethnic identity, whatever it is. As a Turkish citizen, Kilicdaroglu has all rights, he stressed, adding that the Republican People’s Party leader does not refute the reports saying his mother is Armenian. During the election campaign Kilicdaroglu also asked for support of the Armenain community of Istanbul, Gokcek said.
As NEWS.am reported earlier, Kemal Kilicdaroglu was elected Chairman of the Republican People’s Party after a sex scandal causing Deniz Baykal’s resignation. Asked about his mother’s origin, Kilicdaroglu, a native of Dersim, said that she may be Armenian, Kurdish or Greek.
