Armenia’s President Serzh Sargsyan, who is on a working visit to Russia, attended the joint summit of BRICS, Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) and Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) held in Ufa.

In his speech delivered during the summit, Sargsyan welcomed the format of the meeting. According to him, BRICS-EEU-SCO cooperation is based on the general interest to ensure the principle of the mutually supplying and beneficial development of integration processes.  

“To effectively fulfill this idea, we think we need to combine the potential of our integration associations and jointly implement large projects in different spheres, engaging the financial institutions set up in the framework of our organizations,” he said.  

In case of Armenia, the President said, such a project can be the construction of Armenia-Iran railway, which will provide access to the EEU countries to the Indian Ocean via the Persian Gulf.

“The technical and economic basis is already ready, and the project is open to state and private partnership. I hope the companies from the countries present here will express interest [with this respect],” Sargsyan said.  

The President expressed confidence that the dialogue and cooperation between different integration associations can have an important contribution to the formation of a single territory without dividing lines, this benefitting all the states.   

“Armenia confirms the readiness to such a dialogue in different formats with the view of finding and discussing ways of exchanging experience and ensuring harmonious, mutually supplying and beneficial development of integration processes, as well as its willingness to cooperate respecting each other’s interests,” Sargsyan said.
