YEREVAN. - Part of the “No to Plunder” initiative members left the traffic at the junction of Mashtots and Amiryan streets in the centre of Yerevan. Prior to this, Yerevan deputy Chief of Police Valery Osipyan told the activists to free the street (photos).

Afterwards, when Osipyan ordered to move closer the police cars, the protestors got up and continued their march to the Prosecutor General’s Office. But reaching the Republic Square, they again sat in the street.   

The Square is full of police cars and the protestors are scanning “We want water canon!” and “We decide!” as reported by the Armenian News – NEWS.am correspondent.

Osipyan again urges them to free the street, warning that the police will have to use force, and the violators will incur administrative liability. According to him, although the march is permitted, the protestors “haven’t informed the authorized bodies of the sit-in.” The “No to Plunder” insists that the sit-in is spontaneous and wasn’t planned beforehand.

On June 23, the Armenian police dispersed by water canon the members of the “No to Plunder” initiative, who were struggling against the electricity price hike. 237 protestors along with journalists were arrested and taken to police departments.
