Garrison court-martial of Russia’s Rostov-on-Don city selected prior detection as a preventive measure with regard to Colonel Denis Zorin, ex-deputy of the Head of    Food Service of Southern Military District.

Zorin is accused of misappropriation by false pretences in the amount exceeding 450 million rubles, within the organized group of food service, delivered for the needs of the aviation military base in the territory of Armenia,.

The facts of multi-million misappropriations were revealed during the investigation of the cruel murder, committed in Armenia’s Gyumri city by Valery Permyakov, soldier of the Russian military base. The investigators found out the terrifying details of the case, particularly that the conscripts very often left the territory of the base in search for food, i.e. they didn’t get enough food.

This came as a real shocker for the workers of the Investigative Committee. The Russian military base was provided with food continuously and on a full scale, Donday reports.

Once the information on the soldiers’ malnutrition was revealed by the law enforcement authorities, another investigative group was set up, which began to deal with the investigation of the food misappropriation from Gyumri’s military base. The detained high-ranking military officer began to give evidence. As it turned out, an entire system of food misappropriation was operating in Armenia.

The chain led to Denis Zorin, Deputy Head of Food Service of the Southern Military District. But instead of being fired, Zorin was promoted in rank, being appointed as the Head of Food Service of the Central Military District.

During a year, the investigation was seeking to arrest the Colonel. According to the investigators, Zorin, having a high rank and access to the service information, hindered the investigation, “covered up tracks” and pressured the case defendants.

During the trial session, Denis Zorin asked to select bail in the amount of one million rubles as a preventive measure for him. However, assessing the entirety of the evidence gathered, the court decided to isolate Zorin from the society.
