YEREVAN. - Implementing constitutional reforms is not the key objective of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), RPA spokesman Eduard Sharmazanov told Armenian News – NEWS.am today after the RPA Council session. He also said that the changes presented are provisional and the draft may be changed as a result of discussions with different political forces in coming month and a half. 

“This is a very extensive document. The provisional version is not a dogma. Explanations and clarifications are needed with regard to some issues. The final version will be adopted as a result of discussions; all the proposals will be taken into account,” Sharmazanov said.

According to him, during today’s session RPA discussed Chapters 4-7 of the provisional version; Chapters 1-3 weren’t discussed.

RPA spokesman called the politicians’ negative opinions on the first 7 chapters of the Constitution “hasty.”

“The implementation of these reforms isn’t an end at all costs: Everything must be decided by Armenia’s citizens. This is not the priority and key issue on our agenda. We have other more important issues, such as those on improving security, economy and social conditions,” he said.
