Criminal proceedings were instituted in Novorossiysk on the desecration of the Armenian gravestones in three cemeteries of the city.

Presently, the relevant investigation has been launched to tackle the crime, press service of the Russian Embassy in Yerevan informed NEWS.am, referring to the reply of the Russian foreign office to embassy’s note.

The Novorossiysk authorities took certain measures to restore gravestones.

The Armenian Embassy in Russia expressed its gratitude to the Russian foreign office, leadership of Krasnodar region and Novorossiysk for their response. The Armenian Embassy is confident that the incident will not cast a shadow on fraternal Armenian-Russian relations.

As NEWS.am reported earlier, July 24 night, the gravestones in the cemeteries where mostly Armenians are buried were destroyed in the Russian city of Novorossiysk. The Armenian Embassy also sent a note to the Russian foreign office. Oleg Yesayan sent an official letter to the Krasnodar Governor. The Novorossiysk authorities issued a statement, saying the gravestones will be restored on budgetary funds within several days.
